Whether you voted Leave or Remain in the the advisory referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU, I think we can all agree that the Tories’ ‘brexit’ is an absolute wank stain on British politics. I understand why Leave voters might not want to admit that and just say no to ‘brexit’, they fear that their voice will be ignored if it doesn’t keep churning forward, but do Leave voters genuinely feel that the mob currently squatting in Downing Street are genuinely making a good fist of responding to the outcome of the referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU? Genuinely? Really? Does ANYONE think the Tories are doing a good job?
At any point the British media could eviscerate the Tories over ‘brexit’; we know why they have not. At least, I understand why the majority of the media have not shredded the buffoons in government, they are biased towards the Tories for many reasons and their owners likely believe they will personally profit from Britain leaving the EU. The likes of Rupert Murdoch do not care what the impact is of the Tories’ shambolic and mishandled response to the outcome of the referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU. Whatever his motivations, the wellbeing of the British public or the British economy is not chief among them. But what excuse for those elements of the media not acting as shills for their masters? Are they simply THAT bad at their jobs? Not ALL of course.
My view has always been that party politics should have been suspended during the period when the outcome of the referendum was being processed. We should have had a coalition of moderates, but such a fanciful idea is beyond our current party dominated politics. The only party to have attempted to take the balanced view on the referendum’s outcome has been Labour under its current leadership. Labour will not ‘brexit’, they will not simply replicate the disasters of the Tories.
Parties that say they will ignore the outcome of the advisory referendum or keep holding advisory referendums until they advise them of a result they are happy with are not operating within democracy. Britain’s relationship with the EU had problems and the referendum attracted more than thirty million participants. To ignore such a participation in Britain’s democracy would be as heinous as the Tories are for sidelining Parliamentary democracy as they have been for the past couple of years and appear set to continue.
So we’ve started a dialogue with our EU partners and it is going terribly because of the incompetent people we have leading on that dialogue. We have parties like the LibDems, sniping from the sidelines in a concerted effort to undermine our opposition to the Tories, all the while making misstep after misstep in their response to the outcome of the referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU. Better to pipe down if you don’t know what you’re talking about and your efforts are hindering not helping. I’m very disappointed with the LibDems response, more interested in trying to score cheap party political points and not getting their act together to oppose the Tories. LibDem supporters deserve so much better and Britain deserves more from its opposition.
